I had to return to this sign twice to get my bearings straight. You have to do some studying before you seat yourself as the place is layed out with areas that have a server and areas that don’t. Or maybe the dark wood and hard to see lighting is on purpose□. I like old school but in the restaurant biz a little spruce up from time to time can make the food seem better. First thing I noticed is how dated the place is. I’m also familiar with Shakeys Pizza and heard it was similar here or maybe the same recipe or something. It’s been around awhile so I thought I’d give it a try. I’m not from Dubuque so I don’t know where STI sits in the realm of pizza joints in town. (Try White Fence Farm chicken in Romeoville, IL if you are ever near Chicago for some of the best chicken in the midwest.) Too much noise and too much dirt to actually enjoy the meal. Chicken was decent, but a bit overcooked and greasy. The pizza crust is nice and crispy with various toppings. The salad bar is small but has the basics to make a good salad. The disabled young man at the table in front of me made gross noises throughout my dinner. Wonder if the kitchen is any cleaner? The dining room is much like a barnyard of weird people. The seating area is not very clean and one booth had a big slash in it that I think was there ten years ago. Please just pay your employees a decent wage rather than requesting me to do so. I was then somewhat offended by the push to get me to pay a ten to twenty percent tip at the register for a buffet. Walked in at 4:30 pm on a weekday and nobody on the register. My first time back to Pizza Ranch in several years.
